2009 Paddle Events

June 2009 winds down in just a few hours - It's almost time for the 8th Annual Park-to-Park Paddle!

So dust off your paddles and get ready for another great day on the water! Planning by the Northeast Wisconsin Paddlers/ ACA, Friends of the Fox, Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance and several key sponsor and support organizations is nearly complete - here are the details!

Paddle Information (No changes from last year!)

Route begins at Shattuck Park in Neenah, proceeds up the Fox River to Lake Winnebago then north along the shore to follow the Fox River through Menasha in the navigation canal to the Menasha Lock. After passing through Menasha Lock, continue north through Little Lake Butte des Morts into the Fox River, ending at Lutz Park.
Total paddle distance is 8.4 miles; windy conditions may generate waves on the lakes. Launch assistance will be offered; safety escorts representing the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, local law enforcement water patrol and emergency rescue service agencies will participate as in past years. Great door prizes will be given away at the Menasha Lock! Pre-paddle shuttle buses will run from Appleton to Shattuck Park in Neenah.

Schedule for Saturday, July 25th

6:45 - 8:45 a.m.: Unload boats and gear at Shattuck Park drop-off area (Library parking lot); socialize an enjoy Neenah's farm market!
7:30 - 8:45 a.m.: Preshuttle (optional) your car to Lutz Park in Appleton and catch a shuttle bus back to Shattuck. Last bus leaves Lutz Park at 9 a.m. (Or park locally for pick up after the paddle)
9:15 a.m.: Prepaddle / safety briefing
9:20 - 9:40 a.m.: Assisted mass launch
11:30 a.m.: Menasha Lock passage (approximate)
12:30 - 1:30 a.m.: End of paddle; lunch available at Lutz Park (approximate)

NEW this year - Visit Menasha's Otto Grunski Festival at Jefferson Park in Menasha after the paddle!

Other Key Information
All participants must register for the event. Registration is $5 per
participant to cover the cost of event insurance, limited to $10 maximum per boat. (The fee is waived for current ACA members - annual membership dues cover the cost of the insurance.)
A door prize drawing will be held prior to entering the Menasha Lock.
Law enforcement and emergency rescue service water patrols will accompany the paddlers along the route.
Lockage fees for passage through the Menasha Lock have been contributed by the Friends of the Fox on behalf of all participants!
PFDs (life jackets) must be worn at all times paddlers are on the water. Lunch will be available at the Appleton Yacht Club/ Lutz Park after the paddle event.

Adult and Minor liability waivers are available at www.WisconsinPaddlers.org and at registration tables in Shattuck Park before the event begins. We have not set up advance registration due to the significant "day of event" weather potential impact. The courtesy bus shuttle cost is (hopefully) covered by donations by bus riders to keep event costs low. Sorry, but we are not aware of local outfitters or agencies offering canoe or kayak rentals...
