Kick-Off Event Planned for Citizen Water Monitoring Program
(Appleton, WI -- May 13, 2010) -- A special water quality monitoring
training session for citizen volunteers has been set for June 5 by the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance and
Stockbridge-Munsee Community. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Captain's Cove Resort.
"We're looking for anyone who regularly uses the lakes for swimming, fishing, hunting or relaxation," says JaNelle
Merry, Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance coordinator. "We're going to provide training on how to monitor,
collect and record water clarity data and discuss fun projects such as Loon Watch, Shoreline Habitat Restoration
and rain barrels. It will be a great way to mingle with and get to know others who are also interested in the
quality of our local waters."
"With the success of the 2009 monitoring project and the interest of more property owners this year, Fox-Wolf
Watershed Alliance will continue the monitoring project this year on Beaulieu, Koonz and Big Lakes and will
hopefully begin monitoring on more lakes such as Big Lake, Island Lake, and others," she
explains.
Merry notes that there is no charge to participate in the program and lunch will be provided by the
organizers. "Because of the luncheon, we need to have interested persons R.S.V.P. to me by May 28th," she says. She
can be
reached at 920-604-1238 or by e-mail at jpaulette1@juno.com.
Captain's Cove Resort is located at N9099 Big Lake Road near Gresham.
