John is the Director of Public Works and the city engineer for the City of Waupaca.  He is the Waupaca Area Wellhead Protection Commission Administrator and has managed several Waupaca area lake and river water quality DNR grant projects. John holds a B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UW Madison. He is an avid boater on the Chain 'O Lakes. He is married and has four children and has been a foster parent for over 13 years.

Tracy Valenta,
Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District

Tracy Valenta is employed by the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District as their Water Resources Specialist. Her primary duty is coordinating the District's Ambient Water Quality Monitoring Program.  Tracy is also pursuing her Masters Degree in Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Green Bay. Her thesis is focused on better understanding the dynamics of the Fox River and it's impact  on the Bay of Green Bay.

Outside of her career at the District, Tracy is an avid runner. She also loves to take long walks on the beach with her husband and dogs. Tracy currently resides in Maribel, WI on a beautiful tract of land overlooking the West Twin River.

Michael Lizotte, PhD
UW-Oshkosh Aquatic Studies Facility

Michael is the director of the Aquatic Studies Facility at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where he is also an Associate Professor of Biology and Microbiology. His professional interests: scientific research in aquatic ecology, particularly algal blooms; and environmental education. He received his PhD from the University of Southern California and his masters from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.  His personal interests include biking and hiking; reading in the areas of history, mystery and politics; gardening, and spending time with his wife and daughters.

Jeff Mazanec, PE

Jeff Mazanec has been on the FWWA board of directors since 2000, and has served as vice-chair and secretary of the board through those years. He has over 26 years of experience as a professional engineer in private practice, serving municipal governments and private organizations on development of a broad range of civil and environmental projects throughout Wisconsin. Following graduation from UW-Platteville in 1978 with a civil engineering degree, Jeff began his career in southeast Wisconsin. He has lived in the Fox Cities since 1999 and is a frequent paddler of Wisconsin's lakes and streams.

Darrell is from Wild Rose, WI and is currently a resident of the city of Appleton. He is a sporting goods representative with Sokol Associates, Inc., Oakdale, MN. He is actively involved in outdoor education and serves as a WDNR Hunter Safety Instructor and  the WDNR Angler Education program. He also is an instructor with the University of Stevens Point Becoming an Outdoor Woman program for hunting, fishing, and outdoor programs, Boy Scouts of America Venturing Advisors Consultant and a fly tying and casting instructor. He is the host of WHBY Radio's Ask-A-Game-Warden Show ,the host of WSCO Radio, Living the Outdoors show and a contributing writer for Gannett Newspaper Outdoor Page.

Darrell is a supporting member to various conservation groups  including: Trout Unlimited, Whitetail's Unlimited, Wisconsin Waterfowlers  Association, Wild Turkey Federation, Walleyes for Tomorrow and the Federation of Fly Fishers. He has been involved in the hunting and fishing industry for over 25 years

Candice Mortara

Candice Mortara is married with four children and has recently returned to Wisconsin, becoming part of the Appleton community in 2006. She received her bachelor's in Philosophy and her Master's of Public Administration from the University of Dayton, Ohio. While there she worked for the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community and was on the board of the League of Women Voters.

Currently she is on the board of the Friends of the Fox and is involved with the Energy Coalition for a Sustainable Fox Valley as well as working with the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance.

Mr. Kennedy holds a B.S. in Environmental Biology from Bradley University, in Peoria, Illinois, and an M.S. in Aquatic Biology from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee Wisconsin. His thesis project involved physical and chemical monitoring of the central portion of Green Bay. John has been with the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District (GBMSD), a 52 MGD metropolitan wastewater treatment facility, since 1986. His present responsibilities as Environmental Programs Manager include the overall management of the District's state and federal permits, the ambient monitoring program and the hazardous materials management. He also represents the District in a number of local and state wide environmental initiatives such as the Green Bay Remedial Action Plan, various DNR sponsored Technical Advisory Committees, and serves as an alternate on the Board of Fox Wolf Watershed Alliance. He is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captain and operates a part time fishing charter service on Lake Michigan.
