FWWA has begun its 2008 Special Places Program of monthly paddle events around the Fox-Wolf Basin from May through October. This year's trips include several new locations as well as the 6th Annual Park-to-Park Paddle from Neenah to Appleton. Each event is planned for about three hours of flat water paddling, unless windy conditions on the day of the paddle generate wave action.  Here is this year's lineup:

May 24, 2008 - Wolf River – Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Hwy 22 bridge north of Hwy 29 on the
south side of Shawano, pre-shuttle and launch with the take out at CTH CCC west of Lunds.
Travel time may be shortened on the river if affected by high water levels.

June 21, 2008 – Fox River- Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the boat launch on Hwy 32/57 east of
the river in DePere. Paddlers will go upriver to the Little Rapids dam on the east side and
then ride the current back down on the west side. Some great views of area homes as well
as some great wildlife. No shuttle necessary.

July 26 – 2008-7th Annual Park-to-Park Paddle: This year's trip is planned to follow the same route as 2007, starting at the Shattuck Park launch site at 8:30 a.m., paddling east into Lake Winnebago, then through Menasha in the Fox River and navigation canal, through the Menasha Lock, north through Little Lake Butte des Mort into the Fox River and ending at Lutz Park in Appleton. Variations to shorten this route are easily available with the Fritse Park facilities on the west shore of the lake, adjacent to the new Trestle Trail.

August 16, 2008 – Black Otter Lake – Meet at 8:30 a.m. for a shorter flat water paddle on the lake that is a perfect outing to see lots of waterfowl and the ecology of a water body affected by urban development. The route will go up into the headwaters of the stream that feeds the lake, circle an island, view a small dam and circle back to the launch. No shuttle necessary.

September 6, 2008 –Wolf River – Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the launch at Guth's Resort on Partridge Crop Lake outside of Weyauwega off Hwy X on Guth Road. The paddle will go down river to the take out at Gills Landing in slow down-river current with minimal boat
traffic. A trip around the lake will emphasize the importance of back waters and bayous to
this river system.

October 4, 2008 – Lake Winnebago – Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Jefferson Park and preshuttle vehicles to the old boat launch near High Cliff. This will be an open water route allowing great viewing for fall color displays around the lake. Wave height will be affected by wind conditions - spray skirts and safety gear are a good idea!
